Nearly ALL my new Teachable Tips newsletter readers these past few weeks have stated their biggest challenge is Closets. I felt you asked for it, so now you shall receive it!
No matter how intimate or generous our living space is, most of us have the traditional Hall or Entry Coat Closet. Depending on where you live, you may use it for storing heavy winter coats or for off season clothes and gift giving. Most of us use it for a variety of catch all things where random items get tossed in, yet don’t get purged out. Seems to me this space sounds like the absolute perfect before and after opportunity. Though this gal featured in Better Homes and Garden Magazine did a great job! Small closets can be easily converted in 60-90 minutes depending on your in-take volume or caffeinated beverages for the day! We laugh but let’s face it the music folks it is sooo true. Be sure to “hang on” to read this Weeks Teachable Tips Newsletter on {Closet Conversions}… a Small but Mighty Space.

{Hall Closet Conversions}…A Small but Mighty Space.
- Open your closet and take a picture of the space.
- Immediately toss out the guilt and shame…life happens. What are YOU going to DO about it???
- Take a deep breath – work in 15 minute increments. Resume when time allows. Maybe you crank it out in 1 day, but more likely will be a bit longer. It’s about PROGRESS and NOT PERFECTION!
- Make note of the existing space and its function – top shelf, closet rod for clothes and wasted floor space etc.
- Grab (3) upright sturdy bags – mark them donation, consignment and friend.
- Purge accordingly with a giving heart – there are families that can use your items today! :0)
- Wipe, Sweep and Clean the area – then you can start designing with a FRESH CLEAN slate!
- Decide the Storage Theme – off season for clothes, gift wrap and extra birthday presents? Spare crafty space or mud room with the door removed?
- Focus on what remains – look at the SHAPE of ALL your “For Keep Items” that remain.
- Use All the Same Hangers – whether all white tubular or the slim line style maximize space, visual consistency makes a HUGE difference. It’s a non-negotiable in my book!!!
- Hanging tissue paper by color – open your tissue paper set., lay your hanger on top and cut the excess in one long strip.
- Storing Remaining Strips – place them in a ziploc bag for stuffing small bags and future gifts!
- Use stackable drawers – they are handy to stack on upper shelves to store less frequently used items and avoid dust build-up.
- Use wide stackable drawers – great to stack as well for the lower more frequently used items.
- Simplify Gift Wrapping – I skip purchasing gift wrap being bulky and difficult to store. Prefer to select a large gift bag and place bags inside facing the same direction to avoid tangling.
- Store Core Go To Items – for my gift wrap drawer I keep ribbons, scissors and variety of tape dispensers in the bottom drawer. Makes accessibility simple for everyone in the family!
- Feeling all wrapped up, but your bow isn’t looking so pretty? No worries!!! We can re-work your space in no time OR join us by registering for my upcoming Annual House Tour wurthorganizing.com and see all these solutions in person and get your questions answered!
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourself, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. Philippians 2:3-4 |
