{Workout Clothes}…Top 7 Ways to Organize it All in One Place from Danielle Wurth on Vimeo.
Today we are discussing the Top 7 Ways to Organize your Workout Clothes. It’s springtime, we’re getting ready for summer and bathing suit season. It feels really good to have some core pieces that you like and can easily find.
It all starts with Mastering the Four A’s of my Wurth Organizing Method.
Step 1: ASSESS the Space and its Function.
I’ve set up my house to show you two storing options for organizing your workout clothes.
- Option 1: Store your clothes in a closet: Look to see if your shelf space is shaped like a square or a rectangle. Ask yourself if this space will work well for you in regards to storing ALL your workout clothes.
- Option 2: Storing all workout clothes in a drawer: I like seeing ALL my clothes at one time. Set up a divider system within each of your drawers.
- Make a Decision: When you are assessing the space decide which space is going to work better and then you can move to the next organizing step.
Step 2: ATTACK – Grrrrr!
- Give yourself 10 minutes and see what you can do to purge things out.
- Set a timer on your phone or microwave as the framework to work within.
- Pull out your items and lay everything out on your bed.
- Organize by Color: We dress according to our mood. Organize by color lighter to darker, use a chrome shelf divider to avoid the flop over of your stacked clothes. They are sold in sets of 2, and available on our website via Amazon. We love these dividers and use them in clients’ homes all the time.
- Fold clothes to show edges as you would when tri-folding a bath towel.
Sort like with like: Strappy tops, t-shirts, skirts and pants. Divide into your themes then start purging out into different categories.
Grab a few sturdy handled bags, and wire hangers for giveaway:
- Mark one bag donation and/or friend: Load clothes that no longer fit or are stretched and send off to give them a SECOND LIFE! Grab a typical canvas reusable bag, hang on a hanger and keep in your closet. The next time you organize your clothes, maybe you have gained or lost some weight, put those items in the bag and store in your closet for easy access. Honestly ask yourself; “Do these feel good on me? Do I feel good wearing it?”. As you determine what to do with those clothes your are on the fence about keeping or passing along.
- Mark one bag for trash: Some clothes may have a stain that just won’t come out, or are torn and you’re just done with them…these are most likely ready for the trash.
- Consignment Worthy: Some items may be in good shape, but you are well done storing them. You may be able to get some good money at a consignment shop. Make sure the items are clean, in good condition, and hung on a wire hanger for future consignment. Protect and prevent yourself from changing your mind by storing in a dry cleaning bag in your closet or garage to grab easily on your way out.
Step 3: Assign the System.
I looked at the shape of my closet shelves and divided it accordingly. I made the clothes in the drawer like book ends to maximize the drawer space.
- Book-End Style: Tank tops; fold the straps inside, fold over, it doesn’t have to be fancy, but try for a book end shape. Put into the drawer in color order front to back. When items are stacked up, you will always use those items on top vs. the bottom.
- Separate Styles: Longer sleeved tops are folded in the same style and placed on the other side of the drawer.
- Use a Sterilite Shoebox as a Drawer Divider: These are handy, and reasonably priced. Remove the lid and place under the box in the drawer. I store my running gels, gloves for the winter and Garmin watch and charger inside.
- Lower Drawer: Workout bottoms. It’s the space I have to work with, so it ALL has to fit within this ONE drawer.
