Fine farewell to 2020 and HELLO BEAUTIFUL to 2021!
With the start of any New Year comes the opportunity for self-reflection, the chance to wipe the slate clean, and to make resolutions to do better in the coming year, especially when it comes to your health and wellness.
Believe it or not, your overall health and wellness are tied back to the organization in your life. More than just having a tidy sock drawer, having an organization in your life extends to your mental health, ability to process ongoing change (or chaos), and keep parts of daily life flow in a healthy state of order.
My family and I had a different set of struggles during our Quarantine Lifestyle due to our mega home remodel, however found these organizing tips to be most helpful for us to remain mindful as much as possible!
Below are 10 organizing tips for better health and wellness in 2021:
- Grocery Prep
Having healthy go-to snacks for the week handy helps you snack smarter! Example: Don’t just throw the giant bag of baby carrots into the produce drawer in the fridge. Take a minute or two and place 10 carrots into smaller snack bags for easier grab and go snacking. Easy kid task to delegate hands down. - Drink Your H2O
The key to drinking more water is quite simple, find a water bottle that not only inspires you (think motivational quote or phrase) but also fits into your cup holder! I struggle with this one the most. If I have too much salt and not enough water I look like Alvin the Chipmunk the next day! Sure the bedazzled porcelain water bottle is awesome, but if it’s not functional, too hard to clean, or adds any layer of unease to your day it will be harder to keep drinking that water! - Mix Up Your Workout
Define 5 different workout options to keep it new and exciting. Incorporating new, out of your comfort zone workout options into the mix can keep you motivated and sweating! Example: I get bored with the gym so I started hot yoga, which is totally random and different, but I’ve come to love the intensity of it. - Don’t Forget The Weights
Yes, I am that lady who has small hand weights in her car! However, these trusty little sidekicks have been a lifesaver when finding time to workout is challenging. I will walk just about anywhere with weights in hand, including my kids’ soccer practice, which trust me they LOVE – lol. - Walk It Out
Speaking of walking, if you can walk there do it! My husband Phil and I often walk to the grocery store for our morning coffee. These destination workouts help mix things up and almost make you forget your goal IS to workout! - Pass The Gum
Putting an assortment of gum on your TV table can help curve your cravings. Honestly, sometimes we eat not because we are hungry, but because we simply want to chew on something. This is where having gum on hand can help prevent eating unnecessary calories. - Have Snacks Will Travel
Stock your car or handbag with a variety of on-the-go snack options that won’t go bad on you such as dry almonds, rice crackers or food bars. Having easily accessible and healthy snacks can help you save money from stopping at a fast-food restaurant or convenience store. They can also help prevent you from going “hangry” (aka = hungry + angry) which no one wants to see! - Look Good, Feel Good
Nothing motivates me more than having a fun athletic outfit to wear. This includes working out, so go ahead and get yourself that workout outfit you’ve been wanting and get moving. Don’t delay feeling great in treating yourself to a few new items by telling yourself you will make it a reward for “when you lose the weight”. Treat yourself at the kick start and then can continue when mini-goals are reached. Think fierce and fabulous! - Set Goals & Crush Them
Working towards something is the easiest way to hold yourself accountable. I purposely pre-register for classes so it forces me to “show up for myself”. Don’t be afraid or think it’s unacceptable to reward yourself for achieving them either! Heck, go ahead and make yourself a chart if you need to or gold stars work too…why not? My boys are my biggest cheerleaders when I have goals on the horizon! - Change Your Mindset
A workout is what you make it, there is no time requirement. I used to believe that if I only workouts out for an hour it counted as a “true workout”. Then I tried a 30 minute HIIT video on youtube.com one day and was soaking in sweat by the time it was over. Even ten minutes of moving is better than nothing. It all counts as long as you are moving and taking time for self-care – it all matters!

- Use an Organizing Reminder Bag Tag to do the thinking for you.
- Laminate your Reminder Bag Tags and make them last longer.
- Use a hole punch to place a hole in the corner of your tag. Then slide a book ring or key ring through the hole and securely attach it to the zipper of your sports or workout bag.
