One dry, hot Arizona summer I sat in my kitchen with my 3-year-old, Oliver, and my 6-year-old, Devon, trying to think of a game that all 3 of us could play that was fun and tech-free. We loved playing board games, but were beyond done with Go Fish, Chutes and Ladders and Candyland. I recently had purchased a 1950’s Bingo set at a secondhand shop that was stocked with endless vintage game cards and wooden number pieces. I knew the boys would love playing Bingo since it was easy to follow and educational with the letters and numbers. I also liked that the game was built around luck and not strategy, especially with there being a 3-year age difference between Devon and Ollie. Although, the Bingo game was fun, we quickly realized it was too challenging for Oliver to read double digit numbers, yet he loved to color and really wanted to play along with Devon and myself. If only I could make it work somehow …if only…and then my Color Blast Bingo Game® concept was born!
I quickly grabbed some copy paper and wrote BINGO at the top and randomly marked small circles in the remaining boxes of my board using the same 5 colored crayons. I placed the crayons in solid covered cup and the games began! Even though, my boys are now 12 and 9, I remember the “a-ha” moment like it was just a flash in time not long ago. Now you and your little ones or gray-haired ones can hop over to my website wurthorganizing.com, click on the free printable tab and print off the Direction Set with the included Color Boards for up to 5 players. Grab the corresponding colored crayons and printed game kit and place in a large zippered bag so is ready-to-go. Keep everyone at any age entertained at your local restaurant, grandma’s house, on long car rides or while traveling on the plane. Up the excitement by putting money on the table for the winner. I know my Color Blast Bingo Game® will be a family favorite for yours like it was for ours as everyone enjoys a more tech-free and game-friendly summer!
