Hellloooo Organizing Gurus!
Does your kid have a “kondo” envy closet and actually keeps it that way?
Or are the clothes on the floor…..next to the hamper?
Your kid is not alone and neither are you…..
Two Minute Teachable Tip Time!
Before I dive into your closet frustrations and sharing the tools your kid needs to thrive in an organized space, I want to let you know this is about progress and not perfection. It’s about teaching and engaging your child to have the tools THEY need to develop life long skills. Got it?! Good. Let’s do this!
5 Smart Ways to Organize your Kid’s Closet
Today we are talking all about Kid’s Closet Organizing, which really impacts how a child gets ready, sets their mood for the day, gets them prepared for school, and helps boost their overall confidence.
Here are a few tips for organizing your child’s closet:
#1 : Labels are magic!
We can’t stress enough the importance of properly labeling items in your child’s closet. The labels do the talking for the child, the siblings, the parents – everyone. Plus, they make putting things away SO much easier!
#2 : Containers, Containers + Containers
From the ever-so-versatile brick series to the Grey Cottage Woven Storage Bins, having items in your closet tucked nicely away in a basket or container (that is properly labeled – see point #1) is vital to achieving any level of organization. I used double-sided foam tape to adhere Avery chalkboard labels with the paper backing since I liked the visually layered look on the grey bin. I finished off the label theme of the basket with a Brother label using the callout style frame.
#3 : Theme It Out
Find natural clothing themes in your child’s closet. These could be based upon sports or activities they are involved in which indicate the type of clothes they would wear. These themes will help you determine what goes into each drawer or basket based on the volume of that theme’s inventory. Drawers were instantly created using The Container Store Start-a-Stack System so my client’s son could dress more efficiently any busy morning.
#4 : Keep Colors Consistent
Using consistent colors from the hangers to the coordinating baskets makes such a powerful visual impact on the overall look of the closet space, but also helps in sticking with one cohesive organization system. Always buy a few extras since product lines change each season.
#5 : Categorize Hanging Clothes
Keeping hanging clothes grouped together by category not only helps your child select what to wear, but also makes it super easy to put clothes away neatly. For example, having all dress shirts hung with dress pants lined up together, then all casual shirts and everyday athletic shirts with shorts together make getting ready that much easier for your child and you!
